An Option To Create Footnotes Would Be Appreciated

You know what’s the most horrible thing about this story that is horrible in every way? That we are somehow arguing as though Sandra Fluke’s testimony were about taxpayers subsidizing her own sexual activity. In reality, she was talking about a private health-care plan and pointing out that hormonal birth control has uses and benefits that supersede contraception and are useful even to those who are celibate.
I really hate that we’re having this argument on Rush Limbaugh’s terms and not on hers. Because hers are pretty compelling and she’s under no obligation from advertisers to shout ridiculous things for four hours every day.

Yes!  The issue is not that Rush said the naughty words “slut” and “prostitute.”  The issue is that he thinks her testimony has anything at all to do with her personal sex life.  Her testimony shed light on the fact that the real costs associated with the lack of contraception coverage at Georgetown Law have had serious consequences.  She testified:

A friend of mine, for example, has polycystic ovarian syndrome and has to take prescription birth control to stop cysts from growing on her ovaries. […] After months of paying over $100 out of pocket, she just couldn’t afford her medication anymore and had to stop taking it. […] Without taking the birth control, a massive cyst had grown on her ovary. She had to have surgery to remove her entire ovary. […]
Since last year’s surgery, she’s been experiencing night sweats, weight gain, and other symptoms of early menopause as a result of the removal of her ovary. She’s 32 years old. As she put it: “If my body is indeed in early menopause, no fertility specialist in the world will be able to help me have my own children.”

It is infuriating seeing the mainstream media failing to address the substance of her testimony and only covering the controversy over the dirty words.  No one cares about the dirty words!  It’s Rush’s entire argument that is absurd and offensive.
